Ginga Futsal Academy was born out of a shared passion for futsal and football between a father and son duo, Mario Ramos Senior and Mario Ramos Junior. Together, they aim to bring their expertise, love for the game, and dedication to player development to the heart of Tauranga.
Mario Ramos Senior – Co-Founder & Coach
Mario Ramos Senior has been passionate about football and futsal for as long as he can remember. He started playing futsal at the age of 4 in his home country, Brazil, where he quickly gained recognition by winning several regional competitions., playing for teams like: Thalia, Paranaense, Curitbano e Enxuta. His early love for the game led him to pursue a degree in Physical Education specialized in Futsal and Football High Performance Training and to undertake numerous coaching and athlete development courses. Mario Senior has more than 20 years as a professional, passionate and dedicated Futsal and Football coach.
Mario’s journey has seen him become one of New Zealand’s most well-respected figures in the futsal community. He is the head coach for the Bay of Plenty Futsal team – Surge, Tauranga Boys' College (when he became NZ National Champion), where he also is a PE teacher, and the Waikato University Futsal team. Having completed the majority of the coaching licenses in both Brazil he is now working towards his C License - Oceania Federation. Mario brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Ginga Futsal Academy, ensuring that every player reaches their potential.
Mario Ramos Junior – Co-Founder & Coach
Mario Ramos Junior has an immense talent for both football and futsal. He is not only the captain of the Waikato University Futsal team and the Surge Futsal team, but he is also a player for the prestigious New Zealand Futsal Whites.
In addition to his playing career, Mario Junior is completing his studies in Sports and Human Performance at the University of Waikato, and same as Mario Senior, Mario Junior is working towards his C License - Oceania Federation blending his athletic talents with academic knowledge. Mario Junior is also the Futsal Development Officer for Bay of Plenty working for WaiBop Federation. He is a dedicated coach, working with several schools across Tauranga to help young players develop their skills in futsal and football. Mario’s leadership on and off the court brings a dynamic energy to the academy, inspiring players to pursue their goals with passion.
Our Vision
At Ginga Futsal Academy, we believe in nurturing talent from the grassroots level, fostering a love for the game while building the technical skills necessary to succeed. Our programs focus on creativity, agility, and the development of each player’s unique abilities – all through the lens of the Brazilian-inspired “Ginga” movement.
With the combined expertise of Mario Ramos Senior and Junior, Ginga Futsal Academy is more than just a training ground – it’s a community where players can thrive, learn, and grow.
